“I am honored to write a few words for Dr. Sabrina Shajeen Alam, my long-time mentor,
and the founder of 'Mentorship Program for Underrepresented Psychology
Students', an esteemed platform that provides information, skills, and knowledge for
research and advanced education to aspiring psychology scholars in Bangladesh. As a mentee, I
found her to be a genuine, academically motivated, and diligent individual who assists her
fellows in achieving their goals through higher education and research. I saw her as the best
mentor, excelling in guidance, especially through organizing meetings and sessions on how to
write an academic CV, statement of purpose (SOP), critical theoretical analysis of articles, and
overall application process to perform academic tasks in a much more productive and timely
manner. In addition, with the help of her direction and hard effort, we are gaining the ability to
pursue our passion in the academic sphere, which is quite exciting for me.
Dr. Sabrina became a role model for many, particularly emerging
female scholars from underrepresented groups (such as women of color) with her dedication and academic successes, where she aptly balanced
academic and family life. It gradually helps to
develop a belief and confidence in us that high academic accomplishments and a balanced family
life are possible, which contributes to debunking the prevalent myths about educated-
professional women in a Bangladeshi “conservative” society that they must choose between
professional success and family life. I wish Dr. Sabrina the greatest success in her future
endeavors.”
